Mission
The mission of the Medical Physics Unit (MPU) is to
provide the best possible medical physics service in
support of clinical service and research.
Functions
MPU provides a comprehensive range of clinical physics,
engineering physics and radiation safety and protection
services in support of clinical services and research
activities in radiation oncology, diagnostic and interventional
radiology and nuclear medicine. The Unit, in collaboration
with clinical units takes an active role in research
and development of more efficient and effective methods
and means of treatment and diagnosis of diseases. MPU
staff is involved in the teaching and training of Residents
undergoing specialist training in Clinical Oncology
and Clinical Radiology. They also involved in the teaching
of medical students and radiography students on medical
physics and radiation safety.
Facilities
MPU is equipped with a radiation physics and quality
assurance laboratory, a radiation dosimetry computation
laboratory, a radioisotope laboratory, an electronics
laboratory, an X-ray workshop and the associated equipment
to facilitate its services and functions.
