Abstract - During last decade tremendous progress has been made in the development of medical imaging, image guided interventions, nanotechnology, molecular imaging probes and instrumentation. These new technologies have provided significant opportunities to advance medical practice and patient care. In this talk I will first present an overview of current practice of image guided interventions, in particularly image guided radiation therapy and recent technical developments in on-treatment volumetric image guidance. The need for molecular imaging and molecular image guidance will be highlighted. I will then talk about our recent research on high resolution and high sensitivity X-ray and radionuclide molecular imaging techniques, including X-ray luminescence computed tomography, X-ray fluorescence computed tomography, Cerenkov imaging and its potential application in image guided surgery.

This lecture is supported by SH HO Visiting Professorship Exchange Programme.
Light refreshments will be served at the meeting.

2010
5th Sino-US Conference - Personalized Medicine In Cancer Therapy

About 300 experts from around the world assembled in Postgraduate Education Centre, Prince of Wales Hospital on 13 and 14 November for the 5th Sino-US Conference held in conjunction with the 15th Annual Scientific Symposium of the Hong Kong Cancer Institute, co-organized by the State Key Laboratory in Oncology in South China at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, and the Global Academic Programs at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Centre.
In July 2008, the Sir YK Pao Centre for Cancer signed a Sister Institute agreement with the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Centre. This alliance has fostered international collaborations to focus on cancers highly relevant to Asian populations. With the dramatic increase in the understanding of tumor biology at the genomics level, personalized medicine using tailor-made targeted therapy has become a clinical reality and the theme of this year¡¦s conference was ¡§Personalized Medicine in Cancer Therapy,¡¨ focusing on the application of personalized therapy in four major cancer sites ¡V brain, colorectal, lung and liver.
The opening ceremony was officiated by Professor Benjamin Wah, Provost of the Chinese University of Hong Kong; Professor Oliver Bogler, Vice President of the Global Academic Programs, the University of Texas, M.D. Anderson Cancer Centre; Professor Tai Fai Fok, Dean of Faculty of Medicine, the Chinese University of Hong Kong and Professor Anthony Chan, Chairperson of the conference and Director of the Hong Kong Cancer Institute.
